Raypak has discovered an issue with the high-limit lockout mode in version 1.07 software on their Raypak Digital Gas Pool Heaters. Heaters with version 1.07 software began shipping in Q4 2020
Update
The service notice below describes an issue relating to the high-limit lockout mode on products which began shipping in Q4 2020. This follow up is to clarify that version 1.08 is specific to applications with low-flow environments conducive to residual heat triggering the “HL1” & “HL2” error codes.
When experiencing the “HL1” & “HL2” errors, you must check the safety circuits/switches to verify they are functioning properly. If the safeties are operating correctly, only then would you replace the board with Version 1.08. If you do not perform this safety check prior to replacing the board, you will continue to have issues.
Raypak has begun implementing Version 1.08 boards on all production units as of July 1st.
If you need any assistance troubleshooting the safeties on the heater, please contact Raypak Technical Support at technical-support@raypak.com.
Models Affected:
•      206A-406A         Atmospheric Gas Pool/Spa Heaters•      207A-407A         Low NOx Gas Pool/Spa Heaters
•      R268A-R408A     Professional Digital Heaters
The software code for High limits “HL1” & “HL2” were changed from Auto to Manual reset on the user interface to comply with NBIC. This change was only made to the user interface and no physical limits were affected. While the heater is in “HEATING” mode, HL1 or HL2 was designed to trip before the mixed temperature exiting the heater reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit, per CSA safety standards. After satisfying user setpoint, the heater shuts off and all High Limit errors are ignored while in the STANDBY or OFF mode.
The Issue discovered is:
If any safeties trip while the heater is not in heating mode, e.g. Pressure switch, Fireman’s switch, etc. it will trigger an HL1 or HL2 fault code (which should be ignored). This requires the customer or service technician to press MODE on the touchpad to make the heater operational, which will be an inconvenience to our customers. To remedy this issue, Raypak has implemented new control boards with updated software version 1.08. The control boards on affected units must be replaced with a new control board containing this update.
For more information or to obtain a revised control board, please contact Raypak Technical Support at technical-support@raypak.com or call 805-278-5300.
Before requesting a replacement board, please ensure that the HL1/HL2 faults
are not related to other issues which may be restricting flow through the heater.
